Blueberries Are Raspberries

Have you seen Thoroughly Modern Millie with Julie Andrews? If you can handle musicals or love Julie Andrews it’s a must! I love the character Muzzy. It seems her favorite phrase is “raspberries”! Maybe she’s rubbing off  on me after the hundreds of views I’ve sat through…

On to the blueberries!

My second post in two days! Can you believe it? Neither can I! Last week at the farmers market I impulsed purchased a lovely crate of blueberries, much like the lemon I thought get now figure things out later. Do you see a pattern in my shopping?

Armed with my blueberries I set out to find a recipe. I’d been eyeing scones and thought why not? I came across this recipe from latabledenana and got started.

This recipe was simple and easy peasy. Now I don’t know that much about scones. Weather there are scone faux pas or not, but I deviated from the recipe a little bit. I added almonds,^^^ a 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract and a little more sugar than the recipe called for. (The extra sugar and extracts are where I think the faux pas may come in…)

The thing I really liked about this recipe is that you pretty much just throw everything into the bowl and mix it up!

*A note on the questionable extra sugar. If you like to eat your scones with jam or something of the like I think these are perfect the way they are. If you are going to eat them on their lonesome I would add just a bit more sugar. Even with the extra sugar I added they seemed a touch on the savory side to me but were still great!

The day I made these scones a lovely baker’s twine (named blueberry!) I’d ordered arrived! I think I’ve caught the Navy (color) bug and with all this blue around I ended up making some lovely little watercolor gift tags ^__^

Making Popsicles

It’s been a whole three weeks since my last post! Time flies sometimes, especially when you’re busy! I promised my self I’d blog more often but then I just think thats not interesting enough to share. Do you ever feel that way?

Well any who today I wanted to share to my adventures in popsicle making!

I’ve been obsessed the last week with popsicle making. I saw one pin on pinterest (lets be friends!-I’d love to see yours!) and went pin crazy! There are so many options! Not to mention gorgeous pictures! This only made things worse :S So my next step was to go to amazon and check out popsicle molds (of course). They start at about $12 and go up, and while $12 isn’t that expensive, I’m cheap. Period. I decided to hold out. I figured I could probably get them cheaper in town and I’m glad I did! Target pulled through. I got two sets for a whopping $1.50 each! For a $1.50 I can live with the jelly bean 😉

So with molds acquired it was time to let popsicle making commence! Back at pintrest, I started really looking at recipes and started to get a bit overwhelmed. There were TOOO many options. Like with most recipes some were easy others were more involved. So after gandering around a bit I decided to wing it.

The first popsicle batch I made were pineapple and lime! This was a great decision! If you like lime this is for you! They were nice a tangy and not to sweet.

Up front I have to admit to you that I didn’t use fresh pineapple. Its nearly impossible to get here in Dekalb. They turned out great anyway!

Here’s a rough recipe of you’re interested. The lovely thing about popsicles (in my opinion) are if the base tastes good you’re all set. Just raid the fruit you have on hand and get to work!

I used:

1/2 a can of pineapples and 1/2 the juice

1 whole lime

1 tablespoon of sugar (about)

a bit of water

*You’ll need a blender

I squeezed the lime straight into the blender added the sugar and pineapple/juice and blended until smooth. Then added a bit of water just to make the mixture a bit more runny. You can use more juice but I was going to use my pineapple for my second batch. The water worked fine. Then pour into your molds.

Now at this point I have to warn you: no matter how much you wish that your popsicles will freeze instantly they won’t. 😦 So now you just wait. and wait and wait. Then maybe you’ll forget about them (I didn’t) and tada! Popsicle time!

The second batch I made was pineapple and peach.

For these I used:

1/4 can of pineapple/juice

1 medium peach

a bit of water.

Then I just followed the same process. Throw it all in the blender, blend, add a bit of water, pour in mold and wait!

Lemon Two Ways & A New Friend

Well it seems that summer is finally here. It’s “hot” and muggy and it seems like it’s here to stay. I say “hot” because 80-90’s isn’t that bad. Back home in Tucson temps are reaching 112. *___* blech! The mugginess on the other hand is terrible.

With the warmer summerier (I think I just made up a word…) weather, I’m starting to crave “summer” foods. I picked up a lemon at our farmers market, not sure what I wanted to do with it but hey you can ALWAYS use  a lemon right? right.

I saw a recipe for lemon cookies on pintrest and knew THIS is what my lemon was destined for (!) but when I went to the recipe it required a box of lemon cake mix. This was a problem, I didn’t have a box of lemon cake mix and I definitely didn’t want to acquire one. So after a bit of searching I finally found one that seemed up my alley and I had all the ingredients for. I went with this one from little bitty kitchen. This was my first time at this blog but I will definitely be back. Its very lovely ^__^

My boyfriend *had* to taste test a few and taste testing just can’t wait!

I decided to use the rest of my lemon for iced tea! I have fond memories of my mom making suntea in a big glass tea jar. I loovvveee sun tea there’s just a little something special the sun adds. I don’t know if it gets hot enough here to make sun tea but it may be worth a try.

Sun or no this lemony tea hit the spot and a mason jar made it all the better 🙂

I’d like to introduce you to Sir Bartholomew Finderdinks the second. Sir Bart the first (as dubbed by a good human friend) was a companion in the fall but sadly he stopped visiting. Then the other day this fellow showed up! I must say I’ve never seen a squirrel wag its tail a someone before. I hope to see more of him. We love to watch the squirrels running about and playing with each other. Its especially entertaining when the birds hang out and yell at them. The squirrels don’t seem to notice or mind.

A Garland and Focaccia Bread

Its been a few days since my last post. I’ve been a busy bee working on orders for my shop. I did manage to squeeze in a little time to make a new garland!
