Today seems like a quiet sort of day. I woke up early (for me) despite going to bed late after working on shop things^^^ The sun light hazy and soft hitting all the cake toppers I’d worked on in the night that seem so peaceful. After I finish a batch it always seems like their waiting to go out into the world, ready for a party, ready to make a special little splash.
There isn’t much human noise. I can hear the birds chattering loudly away, the insects rattling and the train. It’s a nice moment before the day really gets going and my little area of my little town wakes up.
The other night I experienced a big first for me…
I’ve never made or even had beets before! To tell the truth I’ve always been a tinsy tiny little bit afraid of them. I’m a pretty adventurous eater. I will usually try things at least once and I’m not so sure why I’ve dragged my feets on the beets for so long 😉 BUT I finally worked up the courage to buy a bushel at the farmer’s market with a little encouragement from one of the regular venders.
I’ve been eyeing them for weeks. Even tough I was afraid to eat them, I’ve always thought they are beautiful! I found a recipe on pintrest from Angie Cooks in Portland. I think I went with this recipe not only because it sounded great but because this was also this bloggers first time with beets as well!
As I started working with them
My experience was the similar to hers. Seeing my hands turn red. Loving their beautiful color and earthy smell
And looking at all the beautiful rings!
As it turns out I really like beets! They’re earthy and sweet! I ended up putting some on my turkey burger and that was a good idea!
Happy monday!
